Experience True Reading Freedom

Discover the thousands of books available online with a reader that finally makes them truly accessible. QRead transforms how visually impaired readers interact with digital content.

The digital reading revolution has transformed how we consume books. While print remains popular, eBooks have become the preferred choice for millions due to their affordability, portability, and searchability—perfectly aligned with modern lifestyles.

Today's digital landscape offers an unprecedented library spanning every genre imaginable: from scholarly works to bestselling fiction, children's literature to university textbooks, and everything in between.

For visually impaired readers, this digital transformation represents both opportunity and challenge. The sheer volume of accessible content is revolutionary—no longer limited to what's been scanned or recorded by library services. With publishers directly releasing digital formats, immediate access to new releases is now possible.

Yet significant barriers remain for blind readers navigating the digital book landscape:

  • Multiple book formats requiring different applications
  • Screen reader incompatibility with popular reading platforms
  • Limited voice customization options in many reading applications
  • Unreliable bookmark systems that fail during system crashes
  • Inadequate navigation tools for moving between pages, chapters, and sections

As Christopher Toth, QRead's creator and a visually impaired reader myself, I designed this software to eliminate these frustrations and restore the joy of reading.

QRead seamlessly handles the technical aspects of reading, becoming virtually invisible as you immerse yourself in your favorite content. With intuitive navigation using familiar screen reader commands, you can focus entirely on what matters most—the story itself.

Format Essentials

While many formats may be familiar, understanding key differences can enhance your reading experience:

EPub represents the modern publishing standard, offering structured navigation by page, chapter, and section—similar to Daisy but with broader adoption. QRead expertly handles the text content in unprotected EPub files, providing access to this increasingly popular format.

PDF remains the universal document standard developed by Adobe, capable of containing text, forms, images, and complex graphics. QRead efficiently extracts and presents text from unprotected PDF documents.

Note: Some PDF documents (particularly product manuals) may contain only scanned images without actual text. If QRead displays a seemingly empty document, the file likely requires OCR processing through software like Kurzweil or OpenBook before becoming accessible.
